Some Local Guides of Barishal came together for a memorable Iftar Meet-up during the holy month of Ramadan.  Held on the banks of  Kirtankhola, the event aimed to bring everyone together as well as increase the impact of their contributions on Google Maps.

Organized by passionate local guides, the event welcomes all participants to the Meet-up to join the festivities. The primary objectives were to enjoy a shared Iftar meal, support local businesses and engage in meaningful discussions about improving their contributions to Google Maps.

On the evening of March 26, 2024, the banks of the river Kirtankholar were transformed into a hub of activism and goodwill.  Participants came together to break their fast, tasting food as well as taking the opportunity to support local small businesses by purchasing food for Iftar.

For this Meet-up we decided on a place where we can enjoy Iftar and nature together.

We had to go by boat to get to the venue of the Meet-up , so the boat journey was another adventure for all participants.

However, beyond the joy of breaking bread together, local guides participate in constructive discussions on how to increase their influence on Google Maps.  Ideas flowed freely while brainstorming ways to increase the accuracy, relevance and usefulness of their contributions to the platform.

In this Meet-up, we have decided to discuss an important topic which is what to buy iftar in the ongoing month of Ramadan when people are searching on Google Maps for Iftar in different restaurants, so we can help others by providing detailed reviews and photos of those restaurants that sell iftar.  I thought. Eid-ul-Fitr is coming up which is a very big festival for Muslims when everyone buys new clothes, so we will be targeting local clothing stores to contribute to the Support smail Business and Google Maps users can easily find their desired clothing shop.

The Iftar meet-up not only strengthened the bond between local guides but also inspired a renewed commitment to contribute meaningfully to Google Maps.  Each of us went home hoping to implement the ideas discussed and make a lasting impact on Google Maps and their local area and neighbourhood.

We were also very careful not to harm the environment. We put all the waste we used in a bag and dumped it at a designated place..
