Silhouette photography
A engaging and beautiful method in photography is silhouette photography, where the subject is depicted as a dark figure against a brighter background. By placing the subject between the camera and a powerful light source, like the sun, this method produces a striking contrast between the subject and its surrounds.
Although placing the subject in front of a bright light source to produce a dramatic contrast is the fundamental element of silhouette photography, knowing how shutter speed, ISO, and aperture interact can greatly improve your outcomes:
You can produce striking silhouette photos that accentuate the subject's shape and form against a vivid background by learning to balance these settings and arranging your subject against the light source.
Overall, silhouette photography offers photographers a creative way to capture striking and dramatic images by emphasizing shape, form, and contrast. With careful attention to lighting, composition, and creativity, photographers can produce stunning silhouette images that leave a lasting impression.
How can I use the camera on my phone to snap images of silhouettes?
There is hardly much manual control over ISO, aperture, or shutter speed on most phone cameras. Nevertheless, you may still take silhouette photos by making sure the shot is stable, focusing on the subject against a bright background, and setting exposure compensation. To improve the silhouette effect, use various lighting setups and post-processing methods.
What is the technique for photographing silhouettes with a DSLR camera?
While taking silhouette photos, set the camera to focus on getting the outline of the subject against a bright background. Generally, you want to use a low ISO (100–200) to reduce noise, a fast shutter speed (1/1000s or faster) to avoid overexposure, and a narrow aperture (f/8 to f/16) to keep sharpness while letting in less light. Adapt as necessary to achieve the desired appearance and given the illumination.

[ Select the shutter speed at the end. Since your background will be quite bright and you don't want any details on your topic, it shouldn't be too slow]
Ideal Camera Settings for Silhouette Photography using Mobiles.
Most phone cameras include manual control over the ISO, aperture, or shutter speed.
Both ISO and shutter speed are under our control, but only to a very limited extent is aperture adjustable.
