What is your favorite place, experience, photo or video you contributed to Google Maps this year?
My favorite Google Maps-related experience this year was creating a guide on how to take better storefront photos that are likely to become featured or even cover photos for businesses on Google Maps. Cover photos are the primary photos and they attract substantially more views than other photos on Google Maps.

The guide consists of 19 articles spanning Basic Photography, Google Maps Photography, The Photo Guidelines, and How to get individual feedback on your photography from Google Maps.

What advice do you have for other Local Guides?
When you write a review, think like a Google Maps user. Make sure to include the most important pros and cons and avoid long rants.

When taking photos, please ensure sufficient lighting and show the place properly. Don't upload selfies, group photos, or photos of irrelevant details.

What do you like most about the Local Guides community?
On Connect, we can find and interact with fellow Local Guides around the globe. This is what I like the most.

What makes a place or experience worth rating/reviewing?
Places that are very good or very bad are worth reviewing.

What is your favorite feature of Google Maps?
I have had the most fun studying how the automatic edit approval filter and the photo selection AI work. I do this by closely monitoring which of my suggested edits get approved and which of my photos get featured. I have now added more than 15,000 photos and made almost 70,000 approved edits. It has been riveting to study the qualities of cover photos and then apply these same principles when shooting new photos.
